Safety Tips
Your safety is something we take very seriously at Hi Neiba.
We’re always finding new ways to make the user’s experience safer, but here is a guide that’ll help make buying or selling a little safer:
Seller
- Create your free listing and include great and accurate and original images of the product.
- Avoid bloating of prices as his could negatively affect your selling, it is wise to compare with other similar products.
- Ensure you give an active phone number and email address
- Beware of spam messages.
- Respond to interested buyers via the contacted means while observing the safety tips.
- Meet buyers in a safe public place
- Get paid for orders before releasing a product.
Buyer
- Browse through the listings or simply use the search section.
- Compare prices and connect with sellers
- Pick the best deals while at the same time being cautious of too-good-to-be-true deals, trust your instincts.
- Be cautious of dealers who insist on dealing only via WhatsApp, or online and claim to do deliveries. Also, those who go with calls unanswered.
- Meet the seller in a well-lit, public place like a café or shopping center.
- Do not meet in a secluded place, or invite strangers into your home or car.
- Be extremely extra cautious buying/selling high-value items.
- If you are having doubts, bring a friend or inform a close one of the meeting, the location, and the seller’s details. Insist on inspecting and testing the product to make sure it meets your needs before buying it.
- Check all documentation and only pay if you’re satisfied.
- Any payment before delivery is not allowed, only make the payment upon receipt of the product.
- Do not give out your bank account details, eBay/PayPal info, or any other information that could be misused.
Buyer
- Check out the product and price and compare it to similar products,
- is it reasonable or too good to be true?
- Is the seller asking for an advance payment or initial deposit before sending you the item and insists that you can pay the balance when collecting the item, or refund your money should you be unhappy with the item?
- Are you being asked to pay via unknown payment systems, BTC, MoneyGram, Western Union or via upfront payment?
- Is the seller pushing the need for urgency in the sale and constantly calling you?
- Is the seller trying to prove the authenticity without being asked?
- Is the seller unwilling to answer relevant questions, or not answering his/her phone?
- Is the seller unwilling to use traceable transport methods, can’t meet you in a public placebut wants to deliver the item personally?
- Is the seller asking for your bank account details, debit/credit card number, email address, ID number, eBay/PayPal info and any other information that could be misused?
Seller
- Is the buyer insisting you send the item before they pay for it as they are conveniently busy to meet, or he insists on sending a driver to collect the item without viewing it ?
- Is the buyer demanding for personal information like your ID, bank details, your email address, your debit/credit card number?
- Is the buyer insisting on using a cheque to make payment?
- Is the buyer from a foreign country and conveniently wants to buy the item for a relative? Usually, the may send forged proof of payment to convince you.
Jobs Safety Tips
- Conduct a background check on the company before going for an interview and also verify its website. Check the company’s history, legality status and possible risks.
- Do not submit any upfront fees for a job application either before or after or even go for interviews in remote or unfamiliar places.
- There should be no sharing of personal details such as bank account number or copy of your ID.
General Meet up Safety Tips
1. Meet in Public.
Meet with someone on your own for the first time and always arrange to meet in a public place. Never meet in a private home or in a remote location.
2. Tell a Friend.
Tell at least one friend or family member what you are doing, who you are meeting, where you are going and when you expect to return.
3. Guard your Details.
Be careful about revealing your surname, personal phone numbers, place of work, home address or any other identifying information while chatting until you are comfortable doing so.
4. Don’t leave personal belongings or drinks unattended.
Don’t risk having your personal information stolen. The same goes for your drink – don’t risk having it tampered with.
5. Report any “dodgy” or inappropriate behavior.
It’s really important that you report any member to us who you feel behaves in an inappropriate, intimidating or abusive manner by sending us an email here or at jambo@hineiba.com.
Examples of inappropriate behavior include:
- Sending sleazy, harassing or offensive emails.
- Sleazy or strange behavior
- Persistent messaging/texting/calling.
- Solicitation of other services.
- Asking you for money or donations
- Any other violation of Hi Neiba’s code of conduct.
6. Don’t invite people to your home or car.
No matter how well you get on, until you have got to know them much better, be careful of inviting people you’ve only just met to where you live and revealing your address.
